Practical information for getting started

Book a free consultation

The easiest way to start is a short call. You describe what's stuck. I tell you honestly whether this kind of work seems appropriate.

A good consultation isn't a sales call. It's a fit check.

What it costs

$60 + tax per 50-minute session at the introductory rate, while I complete the final stage of registration with BCACC and CCPA.

The standard rate will be higher once registration is complete. A limited number of spots remain at this rate. Clients who begin before May 31 keep the introductory rate going forward.

What's included

50-minute individual sessions. In-person in Vancouver depending on availability, or online across BC through a secure video platform. Many clients mix in-person and online sessions depending on what's logistically easier in a given week.

Direct billing isn't currently available. Receipts may be submittable for reimbursement depending on your extended health plan. Check with your benefits provider before your first session.

What happens after you book

  1. The consultation.About 20 minutes. You describe what you're working with, I describe how I work, and we figure out together whether it's a good fit. No pressure to book afterwards.
  2. The first session. If we both think it's a fit, we set up a first session at a time that works. Sessions are 50 minutes.
  3. The first phase. The first one or two sessions are mostly about getting oriented. What's actually going on, what's worked and hasn't in earlier therapy, what you want to be different in three months and in a year.
  4. The ongoing work. After that, the work settles into its rhythm. Some sessions are practical. Others go deeper. We move between them based on what's needed.

Cancellations

I ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged the full session fee, except in cases of emergency, illness, or circumstances outside your control.

If it isn't a fit

You can stop at any time. Counselling works because you've chosen it; it doesn't work when you haven't. If something isn't fitting (the approach, the chemistry, the pace, anything) I'd rather know so we can either adjust or you can find someone who fits better.

Begin

The next step is simply a fit check.

A short consultation is a place to name what you're working with and see whether this is the right kind of help for it.
